Cedric Ye Named National Merit Finalist; Three Students Earn Commended Honors

Each year, more than 1.3 million students nationwide enter the National Merit Scholarship competition by taking the PSAT during the fall of their junior year. From this highly competitive pool, only about 16,000 students (1.2 percent) are named Semifinalists, with a portion advancing to the prestigious Finalist level.

This year, Providence Country Day School is proud to recognize Cedric Ye of the Class of 2026 as a National Merit Finalist—an honor that places him among the top academic performers in the country.
“We are proud to celebrate this achievement with Cedric and his family,” said Head of Upper School Jen Aitken. “Cedric distinguishes himself not only through academic achievement, but through his character—approaching his work with purpose, engaging deeply in public policy, and demonstrating a strong commitment to advocating for the issues he believes in.”

In addition to this distinction, approximately 34,000 students nationwide—about 2.6 percent of entrants—are named Commended Students in recognition of their exceptional academic promise.

Three members of the Class of 2026 earned Commended Student honors: Aidan Riendeau, Greyson Roderick, and Henry Sichao Yang.

“The PCD community is extremely proud of all of our students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program,” said Head of School Kevin Folan. “These honors reflect not only their hard work and talent, but a culture that encourages students to strive, explore, and lead. We are excited to see the paths they will take moving forward.”
