Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Worker

The Providence Country Day School (PCD) seeks a skilled and dependable Maintenance Worker to support the daily operation, maintenance, and appearance of our growing campus. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, this position plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and families.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, strong problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative approach to supporting a vibrant school community.

Key Responsibilities
● Maintain school buildings, grounds, athletic fields, and campus equipment in excellent condition
● Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of all students and employees in school buildings and grounds
● Perform preventative maintenance and repairs related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general facilities systems
● Assist with snow removal, lawn care, landscaping, and seasonal campus upkeep
● Support school events through setup and breakdown of equipment and materials
● Monitor and maintain safety standards, building systems, and regulatory compliance
● Respond to maintenance requests and complete work orders efficiently
● Maintain tools, supplies, maintenance records, and vendor relationships
● Assist with emergency response needs, including after-hours building, security, or
fire alarm issues
● Maintain an inventory of essential equipment, tools, supplies, and replacement
parts to ensure smooth operations
● Collaborate closely with the Facilities Manager and other campus departments to
support school operations
● Other duties as assigned or required to maintain campuses in the highest level of
condition

Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or
degree preferred
● Minimum 3 years of facilities, maintenance, construction, or related experience
● Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general
building systems
● Ability to operate maintenance equipment, lawn machinery, and school vehicles
● Familiarity with computers, software, mobile phones, tablets, and email
● Ability to read safety data sheets, operating and maintenance instructions,
procedure manuals, and chemical labels
● Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
● Customer and team focused: Ability to engage collaboratively and diplomatically
with a wide diversity of stakeholders and team members
● Valid driver’s license required
● Experience in a school or educational setting preferred
● CPR/AED certification preferred

Physical & Work Requirements
This is a full-time, on-site position that includes indoor and outdoor work year-round.

Candidates must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, climb ladders, operate machinery, and respond to occasional after-hours or emergency maintenance needs.
