  1. Welcome and President’s Report- Kathy O’Grady
    • Welcome and thank you for coming to the first meeting of the year
      1. Should have gotten class coordinator email reminder, will post on Facebook to remind people
      2. Reminder that all PCD meeting notes will be posted on the school website if you’re unable to attend click here
      3. Quick intros of PCD family association board members and attendees
      4. Thanked all participants who attended/contributed to our first event of the year – Back to School BBQ
      5. The family association hosts or assists with the following events:
        • Back to School BBQ (September) - host
        • Chowder Day (October)  - assists school
          • Plant mums the week before
          • crafts/face painting for the littles
          • Serving food
          • Family Association welcome table
          • Chaperoning the bounce house
          • Merchandise Table
        • Holiday Shopping Stroll on Hope Street (beginning of December) - host
          • Shops close to public
          • Wine and cheese served as you shop
          • A percent of sales goes back to the PCD FA
        • Holiday Tea (December before break) - co-host
          • Decorate Field House
          • Make/donate desserts
          • Clean up Field House
        • Teacher Appreciation week (May) - host
          • Sunday - Chalk the Walk
          • Monday - Potted plants flowers
          • Wednesday - wine
          • Thursday - catered boxed lunch
          • Friday - Coffee and donut breakfast with thank you Teacher wrapped cookie
        • Play for PCD dinner event (May) - assists
        • Yearly guest speaker (rolling) - host
      6. Discussed Holiday Tea
        • Sign up sheet on the table or email Emily Howe ehowe830@gmail.com
        • Don’t have to commit today but if you’re interested sign up
        • We have the co-chairs already but need volunteers.  Again, email Emily listed above.
        • Holiday Tea is a community event – prek-12
          • Concert to gather all the families before holiday break (Friday)
          • The day is broken into 3 school levels (LS, MS, HS)
          • 2 hr for each school level event
          • Kids do a song for choral and a song for band
          • Beverages and desserts are served
          • 12 days of Christmas sung by the school administration
      7. Looking for interested family members who have an interest in being a PCD Family Association officer next year.  It is a two year role.  Positions include President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
      8. Our next PCD Family Association meeting is October 7,  8:15 a.m. Chace Hall
 
 
  1. Head of School Report- Kevin Folan
    • Each year we come up with a theme:
      1. Comradery
        • Foster friendships with the students
          • Learning will follow
        • Great back to school event last week
          • Will up the minimum bid
        • Parent night next 3 Thursdays 5:30-6:40
          • Learn more – talk to the teachers and advisors
        • Downtown 5k
          • 6th year doing it – great community event
        • Chowder Day, Oct 18th, big homecoming
          • Community wide event – come if you’re able
        • Friday night newsletter goes out at 5pm
          • One reliable source to get all the events
          • Covers all the divisions
        • Great summer, installed an AC in the cafeteria
        • Upgraded all the phones
        • Shadow resist film on the buildings – keeping kids safe
        • Broken ground on the new arts center 12-month build – will open September 2026
        • More families, 396 students
        • Saturday November 1st will be the fall open house
  2. Development Update-Mark Mclaughlin and Jahdae Thomas
    • John Parsons – new development associate
    • Parent of a pre-k
    • Very supportive of the team
    • Does great events thanks to the board
      1. Development job is to build good will – greater providence and with the alumni
      2. Bring in the alumni support – strong community
      3. Secure resources
        • Primary focus is on  Annual Fund bridges the gap between tuition income and program expenses
        • Different initiatives
          • This is our checking account, helping with the financial aid and the growth of the school
          • Participate at any level
          • October challenge – parent challenge all about participation
          • If we have 102 parents participate then there will be matching gift of $10,000 by the trustees
        • Chowder Day Oct 17th-19th  
          • All weekend long and chowder day itself is on Saturday
            • Activities for all ages and interests
            • Chowder buffets up in the field house
            • Starting at 9am-3pm will need volunteers
            • Should have received email of the chowder day from class coordinator
            • Sunday is hall of Fame day
            • There will be a remembrance / celebration of life honoring Coach Dickerman on Sunday morning
              • Help clean up, plant mums, serve chowder

                • If you have a middle school or upper school student there are sport events for them to participate in
                • Entire family is welcome
            • Play for PCD event will be heard about at the second half of the year
              • Dinner on Saturday and golf on Monday
              • Event will be held in May
  1. Admissions Update – Melanie Parsons
    • 2 major events
    • Downtown 5k in providence
      1. Sign up codes are in the FRIDAY email
      2. There’s a 1k race
      3. And a race for 6-10 year olds
        • Kids took 2 awards
      4. Special discount codes
      5. Did win the team races two years in a row
      6. 100 community members come out in support
      7. You can volunteer if you don’t want to run
        • If you sign up today you can be entered for the swag bag and a t shirt designed saying ‘I run periodically”
        • Open house starts 8:30, middle school is 9:30 and so is high school
        • Word of mouth is the best way to spread the word
  2. Athletics Update – Marquis Harper
    • Community theme being comradery
    • Earlier this summer had a workshop for coaches
      1. Had a dynamic speaker
        • About team culture
        • Small things that translate to win
        • Motto of PCD “play the game”
        • This year challenge by the speaker –
        • Boys’ lacrosse was their hardest year – they played the state championship and lost by 1 goal
        • Their 1 goal is to get back to state champions
        • Coach Clarkson sent Marquis a text “play up” to elevate the players and support – work it into the vernacular
        • Off to a strong start
        • Varsity field has a camera so we can watch the game if we can’t get to the field
          • Will be back online by the end of the week

            • Go and create account
            • All home games are streamed for free
            • But if you stream an away game you will need to get a subscription
  3. Volunteers for Chowder Day – Jahdae Thomas
    • Sing up genius has been sent around by the room parents and sign-up sheets were out at tables for people to sign
  4. Need new board members: springtime we decide the position and you can prepare
    • Know sooner rather than later
    • Looking to do an event in the spring to do a speaking event

      2. Something / topic personally interested in
  5. Family Association dues will hit accounts in September instead of November - Michael Sandner
    • Cover holiday tea, teacher appreciation week, spring trimester events
