Rhode Island’s 138th Arbor Day Celebration

We were honored to host Rhode Island’s 138th Arbor Day celebration on April 25, 2025 at Providence Country Day School, welcoming Governor Dan McKee, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva, and the Rhode Island Tree Council.
Governor McKee delivered the official state proclamation, and Tree City USA awards were presented to communities across Rhode Island. Head of School Kevin Folan reflected on the history and future of our campus, sharing, “138 years ago, the world was a very different place — and where we stand today was once a working farm in rural East Providence. I’d like to think the owners of Sweetland Farm would be proud of the transformation these grounds have seen since our school was founded in 1923. As we continue to put the ‘country’ back in Country Day, we’re grateful for our partnership with the Rhode Island Tree Council and the progress we make each and every day.”

Thank you to all who joined us for this special event at PCD. This celebration not only honored Rhode Island’s longstanding Arbor Day tradition, but also reflected our school’s ongoing commitment to stewardship, education, and community partnership.
