The Providence Country Day School seeks a strategic and hands-on Director of Marketing and Communications to lead all aspects of the school’s communications strategy and execution. This is a player-coach role: part strategist, part doer—someone who can shape the message, tell the story, and actively share the life of the school across every channel.
This individual will oversee and execute a comprehensive communications plan that amplifies PCD’s mission, engages current and prospective families, and showcases the vibrancy of our community. From managing the school’s content calendar and social media to writing compelling stories and guiding brand voice, the Director will be at the center of how PCD shows up in the world.
Reporting to the Head of School and working closely with the Admission and Development teams, this role is pivotal in growing visibility, deepening engagement, and inspiring people to be a part of what makes PCD special.
The Providence Country Day School is an in-office employer due to the nature of our work and school culture. PCD requires its employees to be physically present on campus.
This position supervises the Assistant/Associate Director of Communications and an on-campus events & sports photographer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead strategy and execution of a comprehensive, annual marketing and communications plan that supports admissions, advancement, and overall school goals.
Own and manage the editorial calendar—planning, creating, and publishing high-quality content that tells the story of life at PCD through web, email, social media, and print.
Serve as PCD’s brand steward, ensuring that all communications reflect our mission, values, and distinct personality.
Run day-to-day communications: write, edit, and design content; post to social; update the website; coordinate newsletters; support events—everything needed to bring our story to life.
Attend bi-monthly meetings of the Board of Trustees and occasionally presents on topics related to school communications and marketing.
Collaborate with school leadership, faculty, and staff to identify and elevate moments that showcase our community.
Oversee visual assets—photo and video—working with freelance partners or coordinating internal efforts to build a strong and dynamic asset library.
Monitor performance across channels and use data to inform improvements and innovation.
Manage and refine a crisis communications plan in partnership with school leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
A creative, collaborative communications pro with 5+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field (independent school or nonprofit experience a plus).
A strong writer and editor who can capture voice, tone, and story in an authentic, engaging way.
Skilled in managing and creating content for websites, newsletters, and social media platforms.
Comfortable using email platforms and basic design tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Canva or Adobe Creative Suite).
Energized by being part of a vibrant school community and excited to be on campus, capturing and sharing the moments that matter.
A thoughtful team player who can both build strategy and roll up your sleeves to get things done.
Able to manage multiple projects at once and respond quickly and gracefully when things change.
