Dear Providence Country Day Parents,
Sunday greetings to all in the Country Day community, and Happy Mother's Day to PCD moms everywhere!
Lots going on for our students in the coming days, so please carefully read the information below:
(1). For Parents of the Class of 2020: For the upcoming senior slide show please share two photos -- one baby photo and one small child photo -- and feel free to include others if you'd like. Email photos to Michaela O'Donnell by tomorrow, Monday, May 11. Please reach out to Ms. O'Donnell with any questions or concerns.
(2). We will have a Virtual Field Trip Day this Wednesday, May 13. Here is a link to potential destinations for students and the special schedule for the day is attached below. Please refer to the bottom of the document for instructions for students.
(3). Best of luck to our students taking AP exams this week. A reminder to check your email and make sure you have received your exam "ticket" from the College Board. Please don't hesitate to contact Mr. Ward with any questions or concerns.
(4). See below for the agenda for the May 19 virtual Parent Association meeting. Stand by for a Zoom address for this meeting. All parents are invited and we hope you can attend.
(5). As Mr. Harper mentioned in a recent morning meeting, everyone who signed up to participate in sports this spring will receive credit. Please reach out to him with any questions or concerns. He encourages you to stay active and in shape by participating in workouts sent by coaches, going for a run or a bike ride, or doing an at-home workout with an Olympian.
(6). Last Friday morning, Coach Harper and Ms. Pacheco also shared details for our upcoming Virtual Field Day on Wednesday, May 20. Details are attached below, with information about materials required for these at-home Red and Black competitions. Many thanks to our outstanding Athletics Staff for reimagining Field Day for 2020. Thanks in advance to students and faculty for their participation, as we maintain our commitment to preserving school traditions in this extraordinary time.
(7). From Ms. Anderson about lockers, cubbies, and textbook returns:
- For all Middle School Students and Families, we ask that you come to campus May 12-14 to clean out your lockers and classroom cubbies. We will follow social distancing protocols, and admittance to the Middle School will be by appointment only and a face mask must be worn. Please use this link to sign up.
- Seniors: May 12-14 please come to campus to clean out your lockers, return borrowed textbooks, autograph your Class Flag, and return completed Senior Fact Sheet and Commencement Script Forms. Please come to Murray House to check-in between 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Please follow all health-related protocols.
- Mrs. Costa additionally reminds families picking up medications at Murray House to please see Ms. Anderson at the reception desk when you arrive on campus.
(8). Thanks to students for their engagement and attention during Friday's visit from alum J.P. Kennedy and his talk about his work at Peleton. Upper School students will hear from alumus Aaron Samuels this Thursday at 12:15 p.m.
(9). Here are two resources that may be of interest to you. The first is a link to info about a PBS series running tomorrow and Tuesday evenings that focuses on the experience of Asian-Americans. The second is a free subscription to the New York Times, through July 6, for students and educators.
(10). As many of you may recall PCD was planning to host this year's Upper School Students of Color Conference before it was canceled due to COVID-19. Working with AISNE (the Association of Independent Schools of New England) senior Sonya Crucey has helped organize a virtual conference to be held this coming weekend May 16-17. Participating students will join different zoom workshops led by PCD students, as well as by students and faculty from other schools. We anticipate a fun event and encourage Upper School students to review the schedule and to participate by signing up here. The password is AISNE2020. You will be able to sign up for different workshops, along with affinity groups, movie sessions, speakers, and more. Please get in touch with Mr. Rocha or Sonya Crucey for further information. Deep appreciation to Sonya for working to make the event happen virtually, and to junior Gale Goodwin for creating this year's conference artwork.
Many thanks to our Parent Association, Class Coordinators, and Rich and Bethany Sutton for organizing the Teacher Appreciation video. It meant a great deal to our faculty and staff -- more than a few of us got choked up watching it, an indicator of how much we miss you and your children.
Take care and please enjoy the week,
