Matthew Beretta '19 has been selected as a finalist in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship competition. In the fall, Beretta was named a semifinalist which recognizes the top one percent of academically talented high school seniors in the country.
The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
He has now advanced to the next level of the prestigious academic scholarship program. Beretta is one of 15,000 students from across the country who have been selected as finalists, of which, 7,500 will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship per college year, totaling $31 million in scholarship awards.
