Counseling Interns at PCD

Providence Country Day is welcoming two interns for the 2021-2022 academic year: Madison Conley '13 and Haley Defontes. They will be working with students at both the Henry Barnard School campus and at PCD's East Providence campus and will be assisting with crisis intervention, social-emotional learning, and running groups. They will also be available to meet with students one-on-one. Each will be at the HBS campus two days a week and at the PCD campus two days a week.

"The interns play a vital role in supporting the social and emotional health of both the PCD and Henry Barnard communities," said PCD Wellness Coordinator Jason Roderick. "Whether working one-on-one with students or presenting the SEL (social emotional learning) curriculum to classes, the interns bring an added perspective and gain a great deal of experience from their work with us."

Madison, PCD Class of 2013, earned a Bachelor's degree in Communication and Art History from Fairfield University and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in School and Mental Health Counseling at Providence College. She plans to pursue licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) after her graduate work.

Haley earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of New Haven and works full-time for a nonprofit in-home therapeutic agency throughout Rhode Island. She's currently studying for her Master's in Social Work at Boston University and will be graduating in the Spring of 2023. She hopes to become a full-time school social worker.

"Maddy and Haley have been a great addition to our community," Roderick added. "They both have worked very professionally to contribute to teaching our SEL curriculum and in that they are both in the midst of classes and training for their degrees, they bring the most current perspectives on school counseling and adolescent mental health. I have really been impressed by their sincere engagement with our students and desire to be valued members of our community here at PCD and at HBS."
