John H. Mullen, a portfolio manager with Providence-based Parsons Capital Management, Inc., has been appointed President of the Board of Trustees at Providence Country Day School. A 2002 graduate, Mullen began serving on the school’s finance committee in 2012 and was elected to the board of trustees two-years later. Following his first year on the board, he took on a leadership role as board treasurer and he begins his new role as Board President on July 1.

“With his wisdom, integrity and commitment to the school, John immediately emerged as a candidate that has the capacity and enthusiasm to lead the board,” said Head of School Vince Watchorn. “His commitment to good process and ability to reach the critical insight of the matter at hand has already proven impactful in helping us serve the PCD constituency. I’m excited to work alongside John and deliver on our new strategic direction together.” Mullen has ten years of investment management experience— serving as a research associate and portfolio manager at Ocean State Asset Management before joining Parsons Capital Management in 2008.

Today, he advises high-net-worth individuals and institutional accounts. Mullen is a graduate of Fairfield University where he received both a BS in economics and a BA in psychology. He also received an MBA from Providence College with a focus on finance and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Providence Society of Financial Analysts.

Mullen is honored to serve on PCD’s board and values the opportunity he’s had to work with his two predecessors, Mary Heffner and Jim Skeffington. “They’ve left big shoes to fill but I’m excited about all the great things happening at the school. I look forward to continuing the positive momentum with the new strategic plan and other transformations that will redefine the experience of a student at Providence Country Day.”

In addition to new board leadership, Providence Country Day welcomes two new trustees to the board: Matt Beardwood and Joanna Saltonstall.

Beardwood has more than 20 years of financial service and investment industry experience and currently serves as the director of wealth management at Westover Capital in Wilmington, Delaware. He joins the board in addition to his role on the PCD finance committee where he’s served since 2016. His father, Bruce, was a member of the PCD class of ’54.

Saltonstall works as a program manager at Brown University where she oversees interior design in the department of facilities management. The department manages the planning, design, construction, and operation of all University facilities and grounds, in support of the academic, research, and administrative functions of the University. Saltonstall and her husband, Lawrence Farwell, are parents to Hannah Farwell ’19, a rising junior at PCD and her brothers, William and Thomas are members of the PCD classes of ’79 and ’83 respectively.
