It is a goal of Providence Country Day School that each student be given the opportunity to achieve personal and academic success. Because some students need support, above and beyond the regular classroom experience, the school offers The Learning Center program to provide academic supplementation. Learning Center faculty prepare a profile sheet for each student to help classroom teachers become familiar with individual learning styles and to help develop appropriate teaching strategies. Goals for Learning Center instruction are then prepared. Each student’s program is planned by a learning specialist in coordination with the classroom teachers. Individual or small group instruction, which is woven into the curriculum, focuses on strengthening basic skills in reading, language development, written expression, math, reasoning, and study techniques. Instruction is designed to help students maximize strengths and understand their unique learning styles. Structured, multi-sensory techniques are used to help students discover their strongest channels for learning, and to develop skills to use those channels effectively.
