The Eco-Ecuador Program, a signature program at PCD, is an intensive month-long journey through Ecuador that includes a homestay, language classes, backpacking, community service, and travel to the Amazon and the Galapagos Islands. This unique adventure is limited to about 14 students each year and provides a truly once in a lifetime experience  Students hone and refine Spanish language skills while living among Cuencan families. They develop a deep awareness and appreciation of Ecuadorean culture by studying the arts, music and dance of Ecuador.  Students learn about the culture of the Shuar Indians in the Ecuadorean rainforest, and are the only outsiders with the opportunity to visit this indigenous tribe.  As the Shuar’s special guests our students share sacred rituals and customs, and find common ground with people who’s life, language and culture are literally a world away.  PCD students also explore the rugged wonders of the Inca Trail, the Amazon and the Galapagos Islands, where local guides reveal the Islands and wildlife that inspired Darwin some 150 years ago.
