MediaLibrary#1053Welcome to Providence Country Day School’s website! I invite you to peruse these pages and begin to get a glimpse of the special community we have here at PCD: our mission, our students, our teachers, our vision for teaching and learning and our passion for working with students to help them grow in myriad ways.

PCD is a school where relationships matter deeply. We all know each other here; no one remains anonymous. Relationships between students, between student and teacher, and between family and school drive the process of teaching and learning at PCD. We believe that everyone in our community is important. Everyone makes a difference in what we are and what we do. Each student brings a unique set of talents and interests to this experience. Our joy in teaching is in helping our students discover their talents and interests, and then harnessing the energy created by that new-found understanding so that students grow into engaged, curious, confident and committed young people.

Teachers at PCD are passionate about their work. As a college preparatory school our expectations for students are high and our curriculum challenging. Through such challenges, along with the expectation for full and active participation in the life of this school community—in the classroom where it all begins, and beyond—in athletics, the arts, and the community near and far—students grow in confidence and develop a keen awareness of their own important competence in a wide array of venues. We believe that enthusiasm for the intellectual life must be modeled by adults, and that is what you’ll find in meeting our teachers in the classroom and in the wider community. PCD teachers are published novelists and poets, working artists with shows in local galleries, musicians performing in a wide range of local showcases, and collegiate All-American athletes. They are actively engaged in politics, leading groups of students to New Hampshire during primary season, and they are deeply committed workers on behalf of the disadvantaged through agencies such as Habitat for Humanity and local food shelters. They are renaissance people—equally excited by the life of the mind as they are about the glories of sport and fitness. And, they invoke that renaissance spirit in the students they teach and coach.

We are held together by our core values: honesty, respect, intellectual curiosity, commitment and participation, hard work, diversity and teamwork. These are the values that define us and provide the framework for the robust experience that is Providence Country Day School. Our students embrace and model these values every day in ways large and small. We ask them to take on a great deal and they rise to the challenges presented. Their accomplishments are cherished and celebrated by the entire community. We honor academic achievement recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and the Cum Laude Society. We carry forward an impressive legacy in athletics with countless New England and League Championships for both boys and girls teams. Our students excel in Mock Trial Competitions and are Scholastic Art Award winners. We delight in return visits from graduates now atdistinguished colleges and universities as they report that they are well prepared for the work and opportunities presented at the next level.

I hope it is clear that I love this place and I think you’ll love it too. Please come and visit. Meet our teachers and staff, talk to our students, parents and alumni, and see for yourself what distinguishes Providence Country Day School and our extraordinary community.

Sincerely,

Susan M. Haberlandt
